Shane Meadows, the director of gritty films “Dead Man’s Shoes” and “This is England”, has dropped the trailer for his upcoming documentary on British indie rock legends the Stone Roses.
The clip, which can be seen below, shows archive and current footage of the band which tracks their winding story to now: their emergence from the Manchester indie scene in the late ‘80s and onto the biggest stages of all, the five-year pause before their sophomore set “The Second Coming,” contractual fights, the fall-out, arrests and the astonishing announcement in 2011 that the original members would make a live comeback and embark on a global tour.

The Stone Roses’ eponymously-titled first album is revered in the band’s home country. Many British music critics and artists wouldn’t fight the enduring claim that it’s the greatest of all time. Indeed, an Observer Music Monthly poll in the U.K. declared “The Stone Roses” just that, while a 2006 NME poll rated it the greatest British album of all time.
The British “baggy” veterans’ greatness, however, never quite translated to mass American audiences – as reports from the band’s recent show at Coachella have confirmed.
“Made of Stone” will premiere in Manchester on May 30 and will get a wide release June 5 across the U.K. and Ireland through Picturehouse Entertainment.
The film was produced by Mark Herbert for Warp Films and financed by Film4 and 4DVD. International release dates have yet to be announced.
