Cat Power, Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, Alejandro Escovedo, Mark Eitzel, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Steve Wynn and Giant Sand’s Howe Gelb are among the acts that have leant their vocals to “16 Haiku & Other Stories,” due Jan. 20 via Thirsty Ear.
The 21-track album features poetry by Nobel laureate George Seferis and music by Sigmatropic’s Akis Boyatzis. It was originally released in Greece and later re-recorded after the poems were translated into English and sung by the aforementioned contributors.
According to Sigmatropic’s official Web site, a limited-edition 12-inch vinyl EP will be released later this year, featuring alternate takes from the project.
