Electronic artists Paul Oakenfold, Deep Dish, and BT will headline the Center of the Universe New Year’s Eve dance festival on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. About a half mile stretch of Hollywood Boulevard will be closed for the event, which will also feature Sander Leinenberg, DJ Sneak, Mark Grant, Grant Plant, DJ Irene, Marques Wyatt, Jason Bentley, Kazell and Tim Laweson, Cody Lee, Chris Monaco, and Shayn Almeida.
This will be the second consecutive New Year’s Eve that L.A. has closed a stretch of Hollywood Boulevard for a rave. Paul Van Dyk, Sean Perry, Marques Wyatt, and Mike Messex performed last year. This year’s affair, however, has grown by about two blocks, and is set to feature three stages, a Ferris Wheel, and a fireworks display. The event — between Vine Street and Whitley Avenue — will open at 7 p.m. and run until 4 a.m.
Tickets for the 21-and-older festival are only available in advance through Ticketmaster, and cost $80. Proceeds will benefit a host of youth charities centered in the community, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hollywood, Braille Institute of Hollywood, Police Activities League of Hollywood, Gay & Lesbian Center of Hollywood, Hollywood Education and Literacy Project, Center of the Universe at Hollywood Park, Project Angel Food, L.A. Center of the Universe at Hollywood Park and the Hollywood Youth Council. Last year’s event, which drew 10,000 people, raised about $800,000.
Center of the Universe is one of two New Year’s Eve celebrations featuring Oakenfold. After his midnight performance in L.A., the DJ will jet to Las Vegas to spin at the House of Blues.
