Tony Lucca has moved easily between music and acting throughout his life. He got his first break on The Mickey Mouse Club alongside fellow future pop stars Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and not long after that show ended, Lucca started a musical career. It’s not surprising that Lucca encountered success on The Voice — he was on Adam Levine‘s team — where he drew on both his onscreen experience and his skills behind a microphone. Today Billboard is premiering a new video of Lucca playing an acoustic version of the song “Delilah.” Watch the video below:
Lucca firmly believes in the power of stripped-down acoustic performances. “As a songwriter, first and foremost, it’s important to me that a song can live alone with just an acoustic guitar and a voice,” he tells Billboard. “‘Delilah’ is that kind of song. It was fun chasing down other ideas in the studio but it feels good to be able to convey the idea alone in my office too.”
The track opens with bluesy, troubling lines — “She’s got gold in her pocket, a knife in her hand/running through the desert with a killing man.” Lucca’s strumming becoming increasingly furious as the song progresses, adding to its power. “Delilah” will appear on Lucca’s forthcoming self-titled album (his eighth full-length), scheduled to come out in January 2015.
