
An energetic Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth opened the 2015 Tony Awards with plenty of jokes and musical interludes. While there wasn’t a full, big opening number a la Neil Patrick Harris (and, not so shockingly, not a ton of jumping a la Hugh Jackman) the winning twosome sang quick phrases paying homage to Into the Woods, West Side Story, and even Wicked, where of course Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda over 10 years ago.

In perhaps the opening monologue’s funniest moment, the two sang an ode to artists who delivered great performances this year that weren’t nominated for the Tony, shouting out Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, and super producer Harvey Weinstein. To the tune of “Smile,” the duo sang that he could, “Count your million dollar box office receipts for the last three months” to help console him, as Weinstein grinned and clapped.
