Police pulled the plug on rap group Insane Clown Posse’s concert Sunday in Toledo, Ohio, after more than 100 fans rushed onto the stage. Authorities said they stopped the concert because of safety concerns. Much of the band’s equipment was destroyed during the disturbance, which came on the final day of the three-day Gathering of the Juggalos 2001 Convention.
The event also featured performances from the Suicide Machines, Three 6 Mafia, and Vanilla Ice, as well as costume contests, professional wrestling and skate shows, and a memorabilia auction, among other activities.
According to the Toledo Blade, the event made more than $4 million in revenue, but cleanup at the city’s SeaGate Centre will likely cost $25,000. Police said about 80 people were arrested, including a Cleveland man who was detained for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Toledo chief of police Mike Navarre admitted his officers could have made hundreds of arrests, but said they used “good restraint” in booking people only for major infractions, such as drug possession or assault.
A spokesperson for Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner said he was “pleased” with the event, which he visited personally two out of three days.
