German pop-rock boyband Tokio Hotel was a popular winner last night grabbing the trophy for best international group at the NRJ Awards, held at the Palais Des Festivals on the eve of the annual Midem trade fair.
All members of the four-piece breakthrough act, winners of the Inter Act category at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, were on hand to collect the NRJ spoils.
Other international winners at the glittering gala included Mika (newcomer), Avril Lavigne (female artist), and Justin Timberlake (male artist), while local artists Christophe Willem (French newcomer), Jenifer (French female artist) and Christophe Mae (French male artist) also collected honors. Superbus grabbed the best French group award.
The NRJ Awards, organized by the French radio network, is one of the glitziest events on the European music calendar. International stars including Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion, James Blunt, and Rihanna all walked the red carpet, while top executives including Jean-Bernard Levy, CEO of Universal Music Group parent Vivendi, was among the attendees.
