It’s a K-Town thing. Bonding over their shared experiences as first-generation Korean-Americans, Los Angeles artists TOKiMONSTA and Far East Movement teamed with rapper Dumbfoundead to launch a popular party called Spam N Eggs in the district where they all grew up.
On Saturday, their first Spam N Eggs daylong festival will kick off in L.A.’s K-Town with more than 30 acts and a bevy of Korean food trucks.
Fresh off the release of her “Desiderium” LP, TOKiMONSTA joined forces with Far East Movement to curate a Billboard CODE guest playlist of their favorite tracks that they feel are representative of this thriving creative community.
TOKiMONSTA’s picks:
Promnite – “Happy Birthday Paper Diamond”
“This is a random collaborative track with some of the most cutting-edge producers living in L.A.”
Kidsuke – “Sgstep”
“Super future sounding, but also really banging. Kid Kanevil from the UK and Daisuke Tanabe from Tokyo.”
SHinee – “Everybody (JINBO NY Subway Remix)”
“Jinbo (Seoul, KR) remixed a big K-Pop track and made it into something more like Solange than bubble gum K-Pop.”
Anderson Paak & Lo Def – “Might Be”
“Anderson Paak is literally the future of music. Better to catch on now and be ahead of the curve.”
Far East Movement’s picks:
TOKiMONSTA ft. Anderson Paak- “Realla”
“One of the dopest and most versatile producers to come out of K-Town and L.A.”
D!rty Aud!o ft. Yultron- “Blackout!”
“Seen K-Town wild out to this live at Spam N Eggs 3.”
Rell the Soundbender x Styles & Complete – “MTHAFKA”
“Unpredictable madness.”
Hucci – “Prism”
“Hucci drops that bass that fucks up your equilibrium.”
