Four years after breaking up, modern rock quartet Toad The Wet Sprocket has reunited and will open some December shows for the Counting Crows in California. The official Web site of Lapdog, a band featuring former Toad guitarist Todd Nichols and drummer Randy Guss, is aflutter with news of the reunion, with Nichols confirming that the group will open a Dec. 10 Crows show at Los Angeles’ House of Blues.
“I guess the cat is out of the bag,” posted Nichols, saying the group (also featuring bassist/keyboardist Dean Dinning and vocalist/guitarist Glen Philips) got together recently to begin rehearsing and is planning “several” California shows with the Counting Crows and “talking about doing more in the future.”
Web site moderator Joe Lyons, in a separate post, said the other tentative Toad performance dates will be Dec. 16-17 and Dec. 20-22 in the San Francisco Bay area, and Dec. 13 in San Diego.
Toad The Wet Sprocket released five Columbia albums between 1989 and 1997. Its biggest success came with 1992’s “Fear,” which hit No. 49 on The Billboard 200 on the strength of modern rock hits “All I Want” (No. 15 on Billboard’s Hot 100) and “Walk on the Ocean” (No. 18).
