TiVO and Amazon.com are teaming up on a service that will let TiVO users buy products featured on the TV show they are watching. Users purchase the products through the Amazon online store.
The Product Purchase feature, as it is called, requires advertisers to participate in the program to take advantage of the feature. For instance, if an artist makes an appearance on a late night talk show, the label can work with both TiVO and Amazon to include a pop-up notification directing viewers to buy the album via their TiVO remote.
Buyers can complete the full purchase there via the TiVO interface, or simply bookmark the item for later purchase via Amazon on their home computer.
The service is being launched via programming such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Colbert Report, and Burn Notice, among others.
