Hip hop artist Timbuktu scooped two awards last night (Oct. 27) at author’s body Svenska Musikförläggareföreningen’s third annual Swedish Music Publishers Awards, held in Stockholm.
The Swedish-language artist took out the categories for lyricist/composer and best Swedish song/work for his album “Alla Vill Till Himmelen Men Ingen Vill Dö” (Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven But Nobody Wants To Die) (Juju Records/Playground)
Joakim Åhlund was honored with the title as biggest international success of the year for the song “Jerk It Out,” which he recorded with his alternative rock band Caesars.
Newcomer of the year went to singer/songwriter Laleh for her eponymous debut album on Warner Music.
“The aim of the awards is to put the songwriters in focus,” comments SMFF managing director Carl Lindencrona. “The recording artists get the credit for the songs and the writers are often forgotten, so we focus on the songwriters once a year to point out the difference between the publishing and record businesses.”
The association’s members decide on the award nominees. Winners are chosen by a jury comprising SMFF’s board of directors.
