Though it had a volatile end a few weeks ago, the partnership between Tim McGraw and Curb Records definitely qualified as one of Nashville’s most successful. On January 24, the label will release “Emotional Traffic,” the final McGraw disc for the label.

The disc already features a hit song, “Felt Good On My Lips,” which topped the Hot Country Songs chart a year ago. The song was to be the first single from “Emotional Traffic,” but was placed on the “Number One Hits” disc that the label released in the fall of 2010.

McGraw, who was named “Artist of the Decade” by Nielsen BDS, proclaimed the album as his “best ever.” In an interview with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he said the disc was “…certainly one of the best records we’ve ever made.”
The disc was produced by Byron Gallimore, who has been a key part of the McGraw sound. A surprise guest artist collaboration from R&B pop wizard Ne-Yo on one of the tracks (“Only Human”) brings producer Darran Smith into the mix and adds further credibility to McGraw’s visionary artistic reach. The hit-making team of Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson, and Ben Hayslip contributed “Touchdown Jesus,” while McGraw co-penned “I Will Not Fall Down” with Martina McBride and the Warren Brothers.

Since “Don’t Take The Girl” hit number one on the country charts in 1994, McGraw has carved out one of the most successful careers in the history of country music, with 40 million units of music sold, according to Nielsen Soundscan, as well as 12 No. 1s on the country albums chart and 24 No. 1 singles on the country songs chart. He has won 14 ACM Awards, 11 CMA Awards, 10 American Music Awards, and three People’s Choice Awards. In addition, he has also landed roles in such films as “The Blind Side” and “Friday Night Lights.”
“Better Than I Used To Be,” the current McGraw single from Emotional Traffic, is currently No. 33 on Billboard’s country singles chart. In November, McGraw and fellow superstar Kenny Chesney announced a 20-date stadium tour that will kick off June 2 in Tampa Bay.
