Eventful.com, a Web site that allows music fans to request specific acts to perform in their city, has announced that Ticketmaster will become the premier ticketing provider for the site’s nearly eight million users.
“It’s a marketing agreement that promotes access to Ticketmaster and (subsidiary) TicketsNow tickets to our users through our Web site and e-mail programming,” Eventful CEO Jordan Glazier tells Billboard.biz.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Eventful has about 5.5 million subscribers to its newsletters, which are personally tailored e-mails about what events are taking place in the recipient’s market.
“So if you got to Eventful and find an event you’re interested in, you click to buy tickets and it goes over to Ticketmaster,” Glazier explains.
Eventful has an existing relationship with Ticketmaster, but the new agreement will feature the ticketing company more prominently on its Web site and in newsletters, according to Glazier. Eventful will continue to work with other ticketing providers, he adds.
The CEO declined to comment on whether or not Eventful would work with Live Nation when the live entertainment company launches its ticketing operations early next year.
In another part of the deal, Ticketmaster will have access to Eventful’s demand service data, which Ticketmaster will be able to share with its clients.
“Venues see tremendous value in that data, because in a given market like Los Angeles, there are millions of people who have demanded artists to come to town,” Glazier says. “So when you’re a venue like the Roxy of Whiskey and you’re trying to figure out who to put, you’re looking at data on Eventful and seeing which artists are in demand in the local market.”
Details are still being worked out, but Ticketmaster has also agreed to promote Eventful’s demand service on its Web site, Glazier says. Lastly, the two companies will engage in a “reciprocal representation of each other’s advertising inventory,” he notes.
