2000 – Rapper Foxy Brown is treated for minor injuries following a car accident in Brooklyn in which her car hits a fence. Police discover that Brown is driving with a suspended license and order her to appear in court a month later to explain why she had not shown up for a previous summons on a parking violation.
1999 – Country singing legend George Jones is seriously injured in an auto accident. The 67-year-old is driving home in his Lexus when he crashes into a bridge at about 1:30 p.m. It is later revealed that alcohol was a factor.
1999 – Czech pop rock act Lucie shines at the Czech Music Academy Awards, held in Prague’s Veletrzni Palace. The B&M Music act collects three awards: Band of the year, album of the year (“Vesti Nez Male Mnozstvi Laky” [Greater Than A Small Amount Of Love]), and with author Oskar Petr, single of the year (“Medvidek” [Teddy Bear]).
1998 – Oasis’ Liam Gallagher is charged in an Australian court after he allegedly headbutted a fan, breaking the fan’s nose. Gallagher, the British group’s lead singer, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm by the Brisbane Magistrate’s Court and freed on $(AUS)10,000 bail.
1998 – Madonna does a rare live interview at MuchMusic’s Toronto headquarters. “MLIM: Madonna Live In Much” airs 6-7 p.m. EST on the cable channel.
1998 – The writer sons and daughters of accomplished songwriters appear at an acoustic concert at New York’s Town Hall. Performers include Wendy and Carnie Wilson (daughters of Brian Wilson), Jen Chapin (Harry Chapin), Marvin Gaye III (Marvin Gaye), Isaac Hayes III and Heather Hayes (Isaac Hayes), and Rachid (Ronald Bell of Kool & the Gang).
1977 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Love Theme from `A Star Is Born’ (Evergreen),” Barbra Streisand. The song wins the only Oscar for the film starring Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. It also wins a Grammy as Song of the Year and Streisand wins as Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
1964 – Elvis Presley film “Kissin’ Cousins” premieres.
1959 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “Venus,” Frankie Avalon. Avalon gets his musical start as a trumpet player and is considered a child prodigy.
1947 – Singer Kiki Dee (Pauline Matthews) is born in Yorkshire, England. Her biggest hit is “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” a 1976 duo with Elton John that tops Billboard’s Hot 100 for four weeks and sells more than 1 million copies.
