2002 – Electronica maven Moby (Richard Melville Hall) is assaulted following a show at Boston’s Paradise Club. In posts on his website, Moby claims to have been attacked by three assailants with mace and beaten. In his website posts, Moby forgives the unknown attackers and asks them reply anonymously and tell him why they attacked him.
2002 – The hobbled Guns N’ Roses North American tour suffers a final blow as promoter Clear Channel Entertainment confirms it is canceling the remaining dates with which it is affiliated. A handful of shows being worked by other promoters are also axed.
2001 – Kylie Minogue takes three awards and performs at the first Italian Dance Awards, held at the Alcatraz Club in Milan. She wins for best foreign dance artists, and her chart-topping track “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” wins for song of the year and best video.
2000 – Radiohead takes to the airwaves of the U.K.’s BBC Radio to debut a re-recorded version of “The National Anthem,” the first of four new renditions of tracks from its current album “Kid A.”
1998 – The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli is injured in an incident following the group’s performance at the Liberty Lunch club in Austin, Texas. The singer gets into an altercation with one of the club’s security guards and, in the process, sustains a fracture the base of the skull.
1997 – Jewel, Sinead O’Connor and Emmylou Harris perform the Beatles’ classic “In My Life” together at the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo’s Nationaltheateret.
1997 – Mick Jagger’s Internet company, Jagged Internetworks, debuts with an exclusive live webcast of the Akai Singer Champions Trophy, an international cricket tournament in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

1964 – Sam Cooke is shot to death at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles. He is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. His biggest hit is “You Send Me,” which tops Billboard’s singles charts for three weeks in 1957.
1960 – Aretha Franklin makes her New York debut at the Village Vanguard.
1957 – Jerry Lee Lewis marries his 13-year-old cousin, Myra Gale Brown.
1954 – Jermaine Jackson is born in Gary, Ind., the fourth oldest child of the singing Jackson family. He marries Hazel Joy Gordy, daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr., in 1973.

1944 – Brenda Lee (Brenda Mae Tarpley) is born in Lithonia, Ga. Her biggest hit is “I’m Sorry,” a No. 1 song for three weeks in 1960.
