2006 – Bryan Harvey, former guitarist with the early 1990s duo House Of Freaks, is found murdered along with his family in Richmond, Va. Harvey, his wife Kathryn and their two daughters, aged 9 and 4, are discovered when firefighters respond to a 911 call reporting a fire at their home. The Harveys are found bound with their throats cut in the basement of their home.
2004 – Daniel Bedingfield is injured in a car crash in Whangerei, New Zealand. The 24-year-old singer suffers moderate injuries. Beddingfield, who was driving the vehicle, is treated and released from Whangerei Hospital.
2002 – AOL Music bows its “First Listen” service, which gives users streaming access to new songs from participating artists before they are played on the radio. R&B artist Brandy is the first artist featured.
2002 – Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is arrested on suspicion of refusing to follow police officers’ orders to leave a nightclub after a fight breaks out. The youngest of the five-member pop group at age 21, Carter is charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting/opposing a law enforcement officer without violence.
2000 – Jazz cornet player Nat Adderly dies at his home in Lakeland, Fla., of complications from diabetes. He is 68.
1998 – Veteran producer Nik Venet dies in Los Angeles of lymphoma. He is 62. During his career, Venet produced more than 300 albums by such greats as the Beach Boys, Glen Campbell, and Bobby Darin.
1981 – David Lynch of the Platters dies of cancer at the age of 51.
1975 – The Allman Brothers Band is named “Outstanding Community Organization” by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
1966 – No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: “We Can Work It Out,” The Beatles. The song takes over the top spot from Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sounds of Silence,” stays there for two weeks, falls to No. 2 once again behind “Sounds of Silence,” then reclaims the top spot for one more week.
1936 – Roger Miller is born in Fort Worth, Texas.
