2006 – Led Zeppelin and conductor/artistic director Valery Gergiev are awarded the 15th annual Polar Music Prize on by His Majesty King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden. The prestigious prize is presented during a nationally televised ceremony from Konserthuset, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert hall, where the annual Nobel Prize ceremony is held.
2003 – The songwriters of the year crown goes to British band Coldplay at the 48th annual Ivor Novello Awards, the music industry gongs that celebrate composers. The even is staged by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in association with the Performing Rights Society at a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House hotel.
2002 – Southern California alt-metal band Alien Ant Farm’s tour bus is involved in a highway crash in Spain, resulting in the death of the hired bus driver and injuries to the band and crew.
2000 – Recording act Lucy Pearl takes their sounds center court at New York’s NBA Store, where the R&B supergroup _ consisting of Raphael Saadiq (Tony, Toni, Tone), Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) and Ali Shaheed Muhammed (A Tribe Called Quest) _ perform a free concert in support of their self-titled debut album.
1990 – A Colorado judge dismisses drug and assault charges against gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Police raided Thompson’s Aspen home following allegations of assault by a female visitor.
