You might never get an all-access pass to a Thirty Seconds to Mars concert, but Billboard has the next best thing. Our cameras were invited backstage at London’s O2 Arena to chronicle the band’s Nov. 23rd gig before a crowd of thousands. Of course, quality time was spent with members Jared and Shannon Leto, Tomo Mili?evi?, but — as the video proves — there’s much more to a successful rock tour than a few famous band members. Billboard’s crew also got a rare glimpse into the life of the men and women behind the scenes who make the

For the members themselves, Mili?evi? admits that the band puts so much effort into its nightly spectacle, that there’s little time for indulging in the rock star lifestyle. “For anyone that wanted to see a bunch of naked chicks, drugs, and alcohol, sorry for the disappointment,” he says. “You won’t find that at a Thirty Seconds to Mars show.” That’s not to say the band doesn’t find spare the time to stay creative. Touring bassist Stevie Aiello gave Billboard a peek at his personal blog, which he uses to share his on-tour photography from around the world.
Aside from the band, the video gives a look at Thirty Seconds to Mars’ sound setup, backstage catering, and the dedicated hands that make it possible. According to Leto, a team of almost 50 individuals take part in the worldwide extravaganza, along with five trucks and a pair of our busses.
“There’s usually one person on the crew you can’t stand that you just try to get away from,” says Jay Rigby, who handles front house audio for the band. “But it really hasn’t been that way this tour.”
The Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams Tour, which kicked off on June 5, 2013, will keep Jared Leto and company on the road through July of next year, touching down on six continents along the way. The tour supports the studio album of the same name, which was released on May 17 via Virgin/Universal and peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.
