Third Day guitarist Brad Avery is exiting Christian rock titan Third Day after a 13-year stint in the group. Avery is leaving to pursue solo projects; he will not be replaced in Third Day, which will continue as a quartet.
Third Day is one of the most established names in Christian rock. Its most recent Essential Records album, 2005’s “Wherever You Are,” has sold 702,000 units in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
“We appreciate Brad’s many contributions to the band’s career to date, including his work on our forthcoming album, but the time has come for us to follow our separate paths,” Third Day says in a statement on its Web site.
The group is scheduled to perform tomorrow (Feb. 29) in Orlando, Fla., which will presumably be its first show without Avery.
