Anyone holding tickets to The xx‘s upcoming world tour can look forward to 10 new tracks to fall in love with. The incomparable British trio just announced its third album I See You is finished and ready for a Jan. 13, 2017 release.
I See You is promoted as the gothy, synth, dance band’s most outwardly experimental album to date. While the first two albums, xx and Coexist were made in relative seclusion among the London studio they called home, I See You was recorded in different studios in New York, Marfa TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London.
The fresh sound is plain on lead single “On Hold.” The airy guitars, droning bass, and haunting vocals are all still there, but then there’s this bubbling up of hand claps and staggering synth drums. The chorus is just a funky vocal sample with some goth guitars and that glorious, pumping beat.
