Indie rock auteurs the xx have announced the details of their long-awaited sophomore album. “Coexist” will be released on Sept. 11 through Young Turks, and one day earlier in the U.K. band’s native country.
“Coexist” was recorded over the past six months in the band’s London studio, with Jamie Smith, aka Jamie XX, producing the new effort. Between the release of the band’s 2009 debut “XX” and “Coexist,” Jamie XX produced “We’re New Here,” a 13-song remix album with Gil Scott-Heron, as well as the title track from Drake‘s “Take Care,” featuring Rihanna.
“After a long time on the road, we took a break, created our own studio and wrote these new songs that we’re so looking forward to playing to you,” the band (Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft and Smith) says in a statement.
The critically acclaimed “XX,” featuring haunting tracks like “VCR” and “Heart Skippped a Beat,” has sold 350,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Amazingly, in its 145 weeks on sale, the album has only fallen below 1,000 in weekly sales twice.
