The final four is set for “The Voice” as America reinforced the assessments of two coaches and broke the ties of two others Tuesday night, winding up with three singers who arrived wholly formed and one who has abruptly altered his course.

Chris Mann, the popera hopeful, will represent Christina Aguilera; Tony Lucca, who has dropped his acoustic side to emphasize a harder edge, is Adam Levine’s representative; Jermaine Paul, who gives a soulful twist to rock classics, is Blake Shelton’s man; and Juliet Simms, a rock band veteran, is in the finals for CeeLo Green.
Determining which singers moved forward was based on the coaches’ scores and the audience vote. Aguilera and Shelton gave each of their contestants 50 points; Green and Levine went with a 60/40 split, in both cases favoring the eventual winner.
“I wanted to be honest, critical and fair,” Green said, explaining the he could not go 50/50 with Simms and Jamar Rogers. “I have, arguably, the two best contestants in the show.”
Those who chose to go with the 50-50 split essentially said they felt America should decide who goes forward and sings at the finale on May 7. The winner will be crowned on May 8.
“I’m shocked,” Mann said backstage, the first contestant to make his way back to the red carpet. “Dazed and confused.” He turns 30 on Saturday, he said, making his appearance in the finals the best birthday present of his life.
Rather than have the contestants perform, the final four from last year appeared. Last year’s winner Javier Colon sang his latest single, “A Drop in the Ocean.” Vicci Martinez appeared with Green to sing her single, “Come Along,” which was released Tuesday, and Dia Frampton sang “Don’t Kick the Chair” with rapper Kid Cudi. Beverly McClellan and Cyndi Lauper performed “Money Changes Everything,” a stand-out track from Lauper’s debut album, “She’s So Unusual.”
