Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard‘s new series that showcases artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from The Struts. The U.K. glam rock band and Interscope signees have become seasoned road warriors since their formation in 2012, including tours alongside The Rolling Stones, The Who, Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe and The Killers. They’re currently in the midst of a sold-out jaunt supporting Foo Fighters, which included two stops at New York City’s Madison Square Garden earlier this month. Supporter Dave Grohl even boasted in an interview with U.K.’s Radio X that they’re “the best opening band we’ve ever had.”
Ahead of a forthcoming sophomore LP, the Derby, England-bred outfit will kick off their headlining The Body Talks Tour on September 21 at St. Andrew’s in Detroit, with support from White Reaper & Spirit Animal. The announcement comes on the heels of their latest single of the same name, which dropped in June.
Today, The Struts’ frontman Luke Spiller looks back with this week’s #TBT Mixtape, featuring Queen, The Doors, Michael Jackson and more.
“My TBT Mixtape is my perfect collection of tracks that acted as the soundtrack to my childhood and growing up,” he shares. “As you will hear, I was — and still am — into a whole bunch of music. The songs come from my early years: skateboarding, my first band, school, discovering drugs and writing my own music. I hope you all enjoy it and discover some new songs that you can add to your own soundtrack.”
