The Roots have laid out an extensive world tour that will take the hip-hop outfit through mid-April, including three shows in South Africa next week that will be performed on a flatbed truck.
The group will return to the States beginning Feb. 1-2 in Vancouver. Five shows will feature up-and-coming rapper Lupe Fiasco, including a March 10 engagement at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Also on tap is the Roots’ annual pre-Grammy gig in Los Angeles, which will be held Feb. 10 at Gibson Amphitheatre.
All the activity comes in support of the Roots’ 2006 Def Jam debut, “Game Theory,” which has sold 160,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set is up for best rap album at the 2007 Grammys, while the track “Don’t Feel Right” is nominated for best rap performance by a duo or group.
Meanwhile, drummer ?uestlove has been drafted to remix Pharrell Williams’ entire 2006 album “In My Mind” for release sometime next year via Interscope. He has also been in the studio with soul legend Al Green in New York working on the latter’s next Blue Note album.
