Influential British dance act The Prodigy has announced its first new single in over five years is to be called “Nasty Nasty” and will be released sometime in January.
Earlier this week the band teased six different versions of what appears to be the single’s artwork on its official Instagram page with the sixth posting stating: “Single 1, Jan the …………. #theprodigy.”
“Nasty Nasty” is the first track to be lifted from the band’s as-yet-untitled sixth album, which follows its 2009 studio set Invaders Must Die and is due out in February, according to an interview that Prodigy songwriter Liam Howlett gave to Q magazine in October.

In the interview, Howlett said that “Nasty Nasty” features lead vocals from band member Keith Flint and contained a “trippy Winston Churchill vibe in the middle.” Other songs expected to feature on the album include “Beyond The Death Ray,” “Get Your Fight On,” “Wall Of Death” and “Rockweiler,” which has been a regular feature of the band’s live set since 2013. A collaboration with U.K. alternative duo Sleaford Mods entitled “Ibiza” will also feature on the album, according to Howlett, who has described the track as “fukin [sic] deadly.”
“Dance music across all types has become formula-based,” Howlett told Q magazine. “It’s: ‘Here’s your drum fill, here’s your build.’ All that DJ bollocks and tutorials on YouTube shit. This album is totally organic. Pure violent energy.”

The record will be The Prodigy’s first release since signing to Three Six Zero Music, a new label launched this summer in collaboration with Warner Bros. Records. To accompany its release, the three-piece band is expected to spend much of 2015 on the road. Confirmed tour dates so far include five shows as part of Australia’s cross-country Future Music Festival, taking place Feb. 28 to Mar. 9, and a headline appearance at the U.K. Isle of Wight Festival, June 12. Further tour dates are expected to be announced.
