Buoyed by his performance on Premio Lo Nuestro, Mexican crooner Cristian Castro’s “Viva El Príncipe” (Universal Latino) saw a sales increase of over 50% that led it once again to the top of Billboard’s Latin Albums chart this week. Castro, a surprise late-year success, has been on the top 5 of the chart sine the album’s release last December, and has made it to No. 1 for three non-consecutive weeks, marking Castro’s first album ever on the top spot of the chart.
Last week, “Viva el Príncipe,” an homage to iconic Mexican singer José José, was at No. 2, overpowered by the debut of Ricky Martin’s “Música + Alma + Sexo” (Sony), which this week drops to No. 2. Also benefitting from Premios was Prince Royce (Top Stop), whose eponymous debut album saw a 34% increase in sales, rising 5-3 on the chart.
The other big gainer was pop trio Camila, who nearly doubled sales of “Dejarte de Amar” (Sony), jumping 8-5 nearly a year the album’s release. Meantime, urban duo RKM & Ken-Y, who also performed on the show, debuted at No. 10 with their album “Forever,” out on indie Pina Records.
Although there were modest sales spikes scattered throughout the chart, no other acts saw noticeable increases in album sales as a result of their performance.
On the Latin digital songs chart, however, Pitbull’s “Bon Bon” sold over 2,000 more downloads than the week before, moving 3-2, while Chino y Nacho’s “Tu Angelito” entered the chart at No. 15 with nearly 3,000 downloads. The duo’s other hit, “Niña Bonita” went 22-14. Camila also spiked on the digital chart, with “Mientes” going 42-18 and “Bésame” going 27-19. Other digital gainers included Tony Dize, whose “El Doctorado” entered the chart at 23 with 2,000 downloads.
