Legendary Irish rock act the Pogues will visit North America for the first time in years this spring. The nine-show tour will begin with a March 9-10 stand at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club and will feature the classic Pogues lineup of Shane McGowan, Philip Chevron, Jem Finer, Darryl Hunt, Spider Stacy, Andrew Ranken, Terry Woods and James Fearnley.
Nearly half of the outing will be taken up with four shows at New York’s new Nokia Theatre, the first three of which are already sold out. An Internet pre-sale for the last show, on March 19, begins today (Dec. 21) at noon ET.
Having returned to sporadic live duty in recent years, the Pogues on Monday re-released their Christmas single “Fairytale of New York” in the United Kingdom. Proceeds from the track, which features the late Kirsty MacColl, will benefit the homeless charity Crisis at Christmas as well as the Justice for Kirsty campaign. The latter group is working to find the parties responsible for MacColl’s 2000 death in a powerboat accident.
According to a spokesperson, the Pogues are planning a March North American release for a live CD/DVD, with details to be announced.
Here are the Pogues’ North American tour dates:
March 9-10: Washington, D.C. (9:30 Club)
March 11: Atlantic City, N.J. (Borgata)
March 14-15: Boston (Orpheum Theatre)
March 16-19: New York (Nokia Theatre)
