Rap trio The Lox (Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch) are back with a new single featuring J-Doe that addresses the ongoing epidemic of police violence and abuse against marginalized groups, especially black people. In a Tidal-exclusive audio, J-Doe sings, “What happens when we say fuck that shit?/ What happens when we see police cars and we rush that shit?/ What happens when we say fuck the system, don’t trust that shit?”
The song also references killings of Philando Castile and Trayvon Martin.
“Philando, Trayvon/ Another mother lost another son/ I made another sign for another one/ I can’t take no more/ What happens when we can’t take no more?”
In a letter The Lox released in tandem with the single, they explain their motivations. “Some may interpret this song as a threat,” they write. “It is not. We are asking a question, ‘What happens when we can’t take any more, what happens when we do to you what you have done to us?'” You can read the complete letter and listen to the song here.
