Feminist punk icon Kathleen Hanna is doing her best to recover from a nasty bout with Lyme Disease. But getting better means canceling a slew of North American and European tour dates this summer.
Today, the Julie Ruin announced the cancellation of 27 tour dates so their singer can focus on recovery. According to a press release, Hanna recently suffered a relapse of the disease and her doctors suggested an immediate three-month treatment plan, which will not allow her to be on the road.

Hanna revealed her struggles with Lyme Disease in last year’s documentary “The Punk Singer.” In the film, she confessed that this was the real reason she discontinued her old band Le Tigre, not creative issues, as previously reported.
The press release assures that the band is confident Hanna will experience a full recovery, allowing them to tour again in the future. However, no formal plans for rescheduling have been announced.
Hanna plays in the Julie Ruin along with bassist Kathi Wilcox, a holdover from Hanna’s days in the highly influential riot grrrl band Bikini Kill. The quintet also features keyboardist Kenny Mellman, guitarist Sara Landeau and drummer Carmine Covelli.
