The Incredible Moses Leroy (real name: Ron Founteberry), will kick off a tour tomorrow (July 11) at Schuba’s in Chicago. The trek comes in support of his cleverly concocted Ultimatum debut album, “Electric Pocket Radio.” Among the dates is a free appearance Saturday (July 14) at Chicago’s Miller Blind Date Street Bash, as well as four dates supporting Tommy Boy act Joydrop.
Released in March, the set has drawn strong reviews in favor of its light-hearted pop and kitsch-laden loops that lean heavily on the artist’s ’80s influences. Tracks from the album, including first single “Fuzzy,” have been heard on MTV’s “The Real World,” Fox’ “Malcolm in the Middle,” and NBC’s “Third Watch.” Some of his music will also be heard in the Miramax film “40 Days and 40 Nights” starring Josh Hartnett, which is due in U.S. theaters early next year.
As if that wasn’t enough exposure, beginning in August, Founteberry will be seen worldwide on billboards advertising the Gap’s fall clothing line. He joins Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes, who will be sporting the retailer’s clothing in television commercials.
