The Hold Steady has chosen “Sequestered in Memphis” as the first single from its next album, “Stay Positive.” As previously reported, the Brooklyn rockers’ fourth record is due July 15 via Vagrant. “Sequestered” will be available May 20 via iTunes.
Of the new material, lead singer Craig Finn recently told Billboard.com that he was “influenced a lot about getting old. There’s less party talk. I don’t think anything is a radical departure, but there are things that I wanted to talk about. I was influenced a lot [by] getting old, and attempting to age gracefully. The idea is to not wake up washed up. You want to keep progressing, intellectually.”
In the past few years, the Hold Steady has built a steady following on the road, playing hundreds of dates per calendar year. This June, east coast fans will get a chance to see a few warm-up gigs, before the band’s proper tour begins July 17 in Cleveland.
