On the May 12 episode of Saturday Night Live, the NBC sketch comedy show once again parodied the Hulu dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale, but this time reimagined it as a spinoff of Sex and the City.
In the spoof, called Handmaids in the City, SNL host Amy Schumer is joined by her fellow maids around the cafeteria table, where they darkly joke about brutality against females, public hangings, and, of course, fashion.
Things get ugly when SNL‘s Kate McKinnon, who plays a character blind in one eye, tells her fellow handmaids about how her commanding officer isn’t over his ex following her suicide. Schumer’s character tries to make light of the situation with a tasteless joke, but quickly gets disciplined with a taser by a nearby guard.
“As I was getting getting tased, I was shocked at my lack of rights in this new world, but stunned at how amazing a look in red,” Schumer’s character thinks to herself while getting an extended shock in the arm.
