It has been a whirlwind 2012 for The Farm. The trio of Damien Horne, Krista Marie, and Nick Hoffman have crossed several firsts off of their bucket list in 2012. They have seen their debut single, “Home Sweet Home,” climb to the top 20, released their debut album, and last week received their first major award nomination (Single of the Year: New Artist) from the American Country Awards.
“Since the single came out, we’ve been on the road nonstop,” reflected Horne. “It’s been a roller coaster ride, and we’ve literally been able to watch our dreams come true right before our eyes with the single, meeting fans, and sharing our music.”

Making a personal connection with their audience is something that Horne feels is vital to their career growth. “That’s the difference between having a hit and having a career,” he told Billboard. “You’ve got to connect with the fans, because those are the people who sustain what you do. They buy the albums, and come see the shows. Radio is very important to have a successful career, but you’ve got to connect with the people who are buying the music, and are a part of this with us.”
Marie said she feels that getting to share the stage with some of country’s top stars has helped the cause of The Farm in a huge way. “Just to be mentioned in the same sentence as stars like Tim McGraw and Little Big Town is a dream come true,” she says. “It’s so great to be opening for them, and hopefully one day, we can be a headliner. We’re working towards that.”
Hoffman, who recently won the CMA SRO Award for Touring Musician of the Year, says that it all starts with the song, and the band appreciates the support that their label Warner Brothers and country radio has given them.
“To hear our song on the radio, as cliched as it sounds, is nothing short of a dream come true,” he says gratefully. “Every one of us moved to Nashville for that very reason, and we wanted to make music that resonated with people. That was my dream as a little kid. I would sit in front of the mirror, and play the fiddle, and imagine myself being on the radio.”
Now, it’s on to the next single, “Be Grateful,” which is a twist in the musical road from their rowdy debut single. That’s just the way that Marie likes it. “Those are just two slices of what we see The Farm being. Each one of us is so different, and our music is pretty eclectic. So, those are just two slices of the pie, when you buy the record, you get the whole pie of what we are. To have that body of work out there is really cool, and to have people come to the shows with the record and know the words to the songs is so amazing.”
