The FADER has suspended president and publisher Andy Cohn in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against he and the magazine’s head of content, Eric Sundermann, the company announced Friday (Nov. 8). Sundermann was fired from his post earlier this week.
Cohn’s suspension and Sundermann’s firing followed a report published by Jezebel on Thursday, in which several women — including former co-workers — detailed allegations of sexual harassment and coercion against the two men. According to reports, some of the women in the article originally surfaced their allegations on Twitter.
“We founded The FADER with the goal of creating a magazine and community that is an inclusive space that fosters discovery and connection — a place where our employees and community felt open, safe, and free to project their pure creative abilities onto the world,” a company spokesperson told Billboard in a statement. “It is clear that we have failed to do that and failed to live up to our standards.”
In the Jezebel piece, Cohn — who joined the magazine in 2003 — was said to have “enhanced” the company’s “culture of harassment,” including hiring his friend Sundermann, despite existing rumors about his inappropriate behavior. Additionally, he was accused of unbuttoning his pants in front of a group of female employees at the 2011 CMJ music festival and later pressuring one of the women to drop her complaint over the incident.
In the statement, The FADER also announced that is has launched an independent investigation into the company’s “workplace policies and systems.”
