They may both involve European women with great voices, but Robyn’s club-ready sound is a world away from The Duke Spirit‘s alt-rock. “I’m a big Robyn fan,” Moss says of the Swedish sensation whose “Dancing On My Own” was a single from the “Body Talk” trilogy of highly acclaimed albums in 2010. Robyn took the tune all the way to No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
“We had about ten minutes to work it out in the hotel room” Moss says of how she and bandmates Luke Ford, Toby Butler and Oliver Betts decided on their arrangement of Robyn’s song. “So we thought we’d use these acoustic guitars.”
London-based rockers The Duke Spirit are no strangers to the charts themselves; each release since 2005’s “Cuts Across Land” has hit the charts in the band’s native U.K. They are currently putting the finishing touches on third album, “Bruiser,” due this year.
