Indie hip-hop duo the Cool Kids will headline the fourth annual Bounce Tour, a promotional jaunt for video game maker 2K Sports’ basketball franchise “NBA 2K9.” Dates and other participants have yet to be announced.
In addition to headlining the tour, the Cool Kids will be playable characters in the game and have recorded an original track for the soundtrack called “2K Pennies.” Other musicians who will be playable characters in the game include Bobbito, Steve Aoki, Aceyalone and Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest.
“We selected the Cool Kids for various lifestyle partnerships with NBA 2K9 since they are completely inline with the 2K Sports brand,” says 2K Sports director of brand and lifestyle marketing Tim Rosa. “Their music is unique and positive, their vibe is independent and authentic, and they roll with their own signature style … all of the same attributes we strive for with our games.”
The group’s debut album, “When Fish Ride Bicycles,” is expected to be out before the end of the year. A spring 2008 EP, “The Bake Sale,” has sold more than 31,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
