Folk-rock duo the Civil Wars is heading for its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry sources suggest the act’s self-titled second album may sell around 100,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Aug. 11.
The new Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Aug. 14.

The duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White has been on hiatus as a touring act since last November, citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition.” While the act is not performing shows or making TV appearances to promote the album, Williams has been giving interviews to the press. White, however, has been keeping a low profile and has not spoke to the media.
The Civil Wars will likely come in ahead of the new “Now 47” compilation, which could bow at No. 2 with around 95,000.
The Grammy Award-winners shot to fame in February 2011, when its debut full-length album, “Barton Hollow,” bowed at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. It sold 25,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A little over a year later, the album would reach its peak (No. 10) and its best sales week yet (36,000), following a performance on the Grammy Awards (Feb. 12). In total, the set has moved 618,000 in the United States.
Other albums aiming for top 20 debuts on next week’s chart include Tye Tribbett’s “Greater Than,” Asking Alexandria’s “From Death to Destiny” and Brett Eldredge’s “Bring You Back.”
