The Chainsmokers are quite busy as of late, but that doesn’t mean the content machine ever sleeps. They’ve got tunes in the works with Blink-182 and 5 Seconds of Summer, but they’re also working on a new tour and taking stock of their 2018. How do we know? Because the duo just dropped a behind-the-scenes vlog, which appears to be the first episode in a new series called “About a Week Ago.”
We watch cute normal things, like how the guys’ dog Mooshu lounges around while the pair goes in on chest day in their garage-turned-gym. We also get to peek into the musical creation process. We see Alex Pall practicing his piano, and we hear Drew Taggart play guitar. The former explains that he always writes The Chainsmokers’ songs with the vision of one day playing them in a stadium — which makes perfect sense, because that’s the style of venue these dudes are playing.
The duo is also up to something for the live performance. We watch as they sit with drummer Matt McGuire and pull their hair over a call meeting. It’s really interesting to hear the two discuss the release and marketing strategy for The Chainsmokers’ last album Sick Boy. It was a streaming-platform experiment that saw each tune released piecemeal until the LP had been finalized, then chronologized and packaged as a whole. There were complaints, however, and we get to see the guys talk out future strategies with reflection and honesty.
It’s a neat eight minutes of footage, and it all ends with a really cute sing-along at the guys’ personal Christmas party. It’s quite humanizing, really. Fans are sure to feel a little more connected with The Chainsmokers when it’s finished. Will there be more vlogs where this came from? Stay tuned, and watch “About a Week Ago… Ep:1 Drew’s XMas Party!” below.
