The Chainsmokers dove deep into Depeche Mode synths and social ills on their latest single “Sick Boy,” and the solemn-but-fiery treatment given to the official music video plays up the duo’s shift in tone. Today, we go behind the scenes with the crossover act to learn more about this new direction and how these visuals came to life.
“[This is] a video we’ve been looking forward to doing for quite some time now,” singer Drew Taggart says in the video below. “It’s a song that means a lot to us and where we’ve come as artists … a really important moment in our careers.”
The spot was directed by The Brewers with cinematography by Rob Witt, two entities that have worked on some of the guys’ favorite music videos, so this was kind of a dream come true. The team came together to help bring The Chainsmokers new electronic-rock sound to life through moody visuals, fire special effects, monster transformations, ill dance sequences and more.
Watch how it all came together in the behind-the-scenes video below, and look out for more new music from The Chainsmokers soon.
