90s alt-rock band that dog. is dropping their first new album in 22 years on Friday (Oct. 4), and two days ahead of the release, they unveiled a nostalgic new music video for their upbeat tune, “Just the Way.”
The Three’s Company?-esque music video stars Maya Rudolph and Jack Black as beloved Stanley and Helen Roper, and antics ensue between the three-piece band, who take on the 70s sitcom lead characters, Janet Wood, Chrissy Snow and Jack Tripper. Full of bright patterns, throwback hair, the fun is lighthearted until a bloody murder plot twist at the end of the clip directed by friend of the band Casey Storm, who got his start as a costume designer for famed music video auteur and movie director Spike Jonze.
Anna Waronker, Tony Maxwell and Rachel Haden developed the upcoming Old LP, the follow-up to 1997’s Retreat From The Sun, over the past few years in Los Angeles. “By the end of 2012 we had four songs done,” recalled Waronker in a press statement. “In 2013, we had a few more. We needed time to let it grow into what it would become. Sometimes it’s hard to get there. Which is kind of the theme of the album.”
Old LP is out Friday. Watch the “Just the Way” music video below.
