Teyana Taylor is an artist, actress, fashion guru, choreographer and a mom of two — but no matter how busy she gets, she knows the importance of skincare.
The 30-year-old star teamed up with Olay Body to promote their new nighttime body care products, the Cleansing & Renewing Body Wash and Rinse-Off Body Conditioner with Retinol. “It’s a good way to keep the skin tight, and keep it nice and young,” Taylor tells Billboard of retinol, a high-end skincare ingredient that’s often found in facial products.
“It’s been a dream to work with them, and their products are actually good in real life,” she gushes about Olay. “I don’t partner with anybody that I’m not a fan of in real life or if I don’t use the products in real life. It’s been amazing and definitely my two favorite things out right now.”
With skin as enviably soft and glowy as hers, Teyana revealed her full body and face routine, naturally featuring Olay’s new products. “The reason why I love the [Cleansing & Renewing Body Wash and the Rinse-Off Body Conditioner] is because they feel like — you know when you get in the shower and you put real good shampoo on your hair and your hair is so soft, like you can literally run your hands through it? That’s how I feel, but on the body. To be able to just wash your body with a great body wash, and it smells… Oh my God. So amazing!
“I don’t like getting out of the shower, because I’m usually cold,” she adds. “I like to lotion myself in the shower, but sometimes, regular lotion can get funny so I use coconut oils and stuff. But Olay is one of the first products where I can actually stay in the shower, moisturize my body and then actually be able to rinse it off, get out and then literally pat down my body and not even have to moisturize. It’s crazy how soft my skin is after, how great you feel.”
For her face, the multihyphenate likes to keep it natural. “I love essential oils, like coconut oil, olive oil,” she explains. “I love every essential oil. I got all types of stuff — sandalwood, mint, lavender. All types of stuff. I make little concoctions. I just be making up my own stuff, honestly.”
While starting a skincare regimen can seem overwhelming due to the countless products on the market, Teyana advises to keep an open mind and do your own research. “You have to see what works for you, because everybody is different,” she explains. “Now, being in my 30s, being a mom and seeing and learning how much the body changes, I stopped worrying about what everybody else was using. What works on this person might not necessarily work on me.
“I literally type into Google, ‘If my skin is not oily but it’s not dry, what would be the perfect moisturizer?’” she continues. “I kind of keep it more natural. I know for a fact that they might say coconut oil clogs pores, it doesn’t clog mine. When I use the perfect amount, it’s like my skin eats it up and leaves me so nice and dewy. It’s a little work, but definitely be open to trying new things. I’ll see someone and I love their skin, I’ll just be like, ‘What do you use?’ And then I’ll go and try it. I’m always open to trying new stuff. I’m also easily convinced too. I will walk in the store and if I see anything new, I’m trying it.
“Everything is not going to work right away,” she concludes. “You have to listen to what your body is going through at the moment.”
