Teyana Taylor, better known to most music fans as the voice behind some of the hooks on Kanye West’s Grammy-winning album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, will again be linking up with Mr. West after signing to his G.O.O.D. Music imprint, a subsidiary of Island Def Jam.

Taylor, then a 19-year-old singer from Harlem, was hand-picked by Kanye to feature on the tracks “Dark Fantasy” and “Hell of a Life,” later performing with him at the Bowery Ballroom during his album release party. She had previously been signed to Pharrell’s Startrak/Interscope label (under the Universal umbrella), releasing her debut album From A Planet Called Harlem in 2008.
Now 21, she just released her first mixtape March 12 titled The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor (an obvious nod to Lauryn Hill’s debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill), which has already spawned tracks featuring Jadakiss, Fabolous, and Wale. Her G.O.O.D. Music bow is expected to come out later this year, with details on the project scant.

In addition to her singing prowess, she has also crafted a few notable songwriting credits, co-writing “Right By My Side” by Nicki Minaj, featuring Chris Brown, off Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and also has co-written songs by Brown and Willow Smith. An accomplished dancer and model as well, she has appeared in television shows such as MTV’s “Made” and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family.
Taylor will be joining West’s star-studded label, many of whom have been frequent collaborators on his G.O.O.D. Fridays music series, such as Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Q-Tip, and Big Sean, among others.
