Spanish language broadcaster Televisa and its partner Univision Communications Inc. are headed back to federal court for a trial over royalty payments, court documents showed.
The Los Angeles trial judge ordered the two sides to file jury screening instructions by Sept. 8 for a trial set to commence on Oct.14, according to court documents filed on Friday.
The trial has been postponed twice from its original start date last spring, prompting analysts and legal observers to conclude that the two companies were trying to end the three-year old dispute out of court.
Attorney Marshall Grossman, who represents Televisa, said on Thursday that “there are no substantive settlement discussions pending and it is anticipated the case will go to trial as scheduled.”
An attorney for Univision could not be reached for comment.
Televisa sued in 2005 demanding royalty payments it said Univision had withheld as part of a programming deal that expires in 2017.
