Taylor Swift dropped perhaps her most vulnerable tune yet on Tuesday (July 23) in the form of the 80s-reminiscent “The Archer.”
“I’ve been the archer/ I’ve been the prey/ Screaming, ‘Who could ever leave me, darling’/ But who could stay?” are among the heartbreaking lyrics about the struggle with self-love and acceptance from others.
As expected, the all-too-familiar feeling Swift sings about resonated with her fans, who took to Twitter to bond over the tears that fell as they listened to the song. On a positive note, the Swifties also shared happiness for their favorite songstress, who seems to found the love she was looking for in boyfriend Joe Alwyn. See their emotional reactions below.
we really went from I love life and color and bright and rainbows and gay and I’m the only one of ME! to I’m a miserable sad human being that no one loves and I hate my reflection why do I exist #TheArcher pic.twitter.com/sicLUjXYcw

“All of my heroes die all alone.” / “All of my enemies started out friends.”
HOW does she do this? How does she put into words all the fears I’ve ever had about myself without ever having met me? #TheArcher @taylorswift13 @taylornation13

This part hit me so hard. Why are we so often the reason for our own misery? For anyone who needs it, this is a reminder to be kind to yourself. —- #TheArcher @taylorswift13 @taylornation13 pic.twitter.com/tk8SN7jwo0

At the end of Delicate, she looks off and smiles. She feels invisible the whole video until she sees someone. That someone SAW her. He stayed. The sequel to Delicate is BEAUTIFUL. #TheArcher @taylornation13 pic.twitter.com/XqQA86dlXL
