So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?
Two songs debuted on the Trending 140 that referenced the Bangles 1986 hit, “Walk Like An Egyptian”: Drake’s “Heat of the Moment” and Iggy Azalea’s “Beg For It.”
Drake celebrated his 28th birthday by gifting fans with three new songs, all of which placed on the Trending 140 that Saturday, Oct. 25.
First thing Sunday morning, Oct. 26, Iggy Azalea performed her new single, “Beg For It,” on Saturday Night Live for the first time. It reached No. 5 on the Trending 140. “Beg For It’s” pre-chorus also features a line distinctly from the Bangles ’86 hit.
But the story wasn’t 1986, it was Taylor Swift’s album 1989. When the albumdropped at midnight on Monday morning, it caused a record-breaking six album tracks to chart on the Trending 140 at once.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
