Taylor Swift has been doing everything in her power to get the word out about her fourth album, “Red,” which was released on Monday (Oct. 22): “Good Morning America” appearances, SiriusXM sit-downs, a stop by “The View” and, of course, a Billboard cover story. Early on Wednesday morning, Swift unveiled her latest piece of artful promotion: the “Begin Again” music video, which finds the country superstar strolling the streets of Paris in search of a fresh start.
At first, the “Begin Again” video appears to be strikingly similar to Adele’s “Someone Like You” clip, with Swift crooning her respective ballad while pensively gazing across the water and remembering a lost love. But then, salvation: while sketching the Eiffel Tower at a cafe, Swift attracts the attention of a sophisticated-looking photographer. After a fair amount of bicycling on Swift’s part, the clip ends with the two walking side-by-side, as the singer allows herself to “begin again.”
“Begin Again” is the second music video to arrive from “Red,” following the clip for Swift’s first Hot 100 No. 1, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” As reported on Tuesday, “Red” looks set to sell 1 million copes in its first week of release, making Swift the first female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991 to present) to have a pair of albums sell more than 1 million units in one week (her last album, “Speak Now,” started with 1.047 million units sold in its debut sales week in 2010).
The “Begin Again” video is hardly the end of Swift’s weeklong promotional push — next up is “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, followed by Katie Couric’s “Katie” and “20/20” on Friday. And after rocking the MTV EMAs on Nov. 11 in Frankfurt, Swift will perform at the American Music Awards on Nov. 18.
