While performing at the Cannes Lions festival in France on Wednesday night, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl told a story of the time Taylor Swift saved him from utter embarrassment in front of Beatles legend Paul McCartney.
In addition to being in the presence of a Beatle, Grohl was also a little off his game because, well, he was high. “[McCartney] finishes the song and everybody looks at me like, ‘Come on, Dave! Play a song!’” Grohl recalled.

On top of that, there were only left-handed guitars around (McCartney is a leftie), so Grohl was getting nervous — until superhero Swift saved the day. “It was kind of like one of those nightmares where you’re running backwards and always late for whatever you got to go to,” Grohl said. “All of a sudden, Taylor Swift stands up and is like, ‘I’ll play a song,’ and I’m like, ‘Ugh, thank God Taylor Swift’s here.’ Like f—ing Batman when you need him.”
With Swift by his side, Grohl attempted to play McCartney’s left-handed guitar to Foo Fighters’ “Best of You.” “She was f—ing playing our song ‘Best of You.’ As if I weren’t high enough, that f—ing blew me into outer space.”
