Kevin Parker’s Tame Impala is weeks out from sharing an eagerly-anticipated fourth studio album, The Slow Rush. We now have a better idea how it’ll sound after the Australian production maestro shared a fourth track from it, “Lost In Yesterday.”
As its title would suggest, “Lost In Yesterday” sees Parker looking forward to the past. It’s swimming in nostalgia and hooked on a funky rhythm section. Parker’s built a tune on sounds familiar to those of us to who grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, stuffed with the kinds of sound effects which spilled out of shoot ‘em downs, at 20 cents a go.
On it, he sings, “And you’re gonna have to let it go someday/ You’ve been pickin’ it up like Groundhog Day/ ‘Cause it might’ve been somethin’, don’t say/ Cause it has to be lost in yesterday.”
“Lost In Yesterday” follows Slow Rush releases “It Might Be Time,” “Borderline” and the reflective “Posthumous Forgiveness.”
The Slow Rush is the followup to 2015’s Currents, which earned Tame Impala the Brit Award for best international band. The new set was recorded between Los Angeles and Parker’s studio in his hometown of Fremantle, with the Aussie artist recording, producing and mixing all 12 tracks.
Tame Impala will embark on a North American tour from March 9 at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, including a headline slot at Bonnaroo Festival on June 14.
