Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week Billboard taps chart-topping artists to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
This week, Fleet Foxes have shared a mix of the tracks that inspired their new album Crack-Up, which arrived last Friday (June 16) via Nonesuch Records. Their third full-length album and first new release in six years was written entirely by frontman Robin Pecknold, who also co-produced alongside longtime bandmate and childhood friend Skyler Skjelset. This Friday (June 23), Fleet Foxes will jet out on an international tour that follows a series of intimate shows in the Pacific Northwest and four sold out nights at the Sydney Opera House.
For this edition of Takeover Tuesday (June 20), Fleet Foxes put together the below playlist, offering a lens into their rich, highly curated breadth of influences, featuring a diverse mix of artists from Curtis Mayfield and Radiohead to Duke Ellington and The Velvet Underground.
“From the outset of recording, we aspired to make an album that could stand alongside our previous work, venture into its own territory, and that would leave a clear horizon for us moving forward,” the band says of the LP’s inspiration. “We feel like we got it there, even if it took a while.”
Give the band’s Crack-Up album inspirations playlist a spin below and catch the band on tour dates through the end of the year.
