U.K pop act Take That has become one of the fastest million-sellers of all time with their new set “The Circus” (Polydor), according to the Official Charts Company.
The revived boy band will have sold their millionth copy in the U.K. early today (Dec. 19), it’s 19th day in stores. The OCC tally was 990,000 by the end of Dec. 18.
Its rapid sale makes “The Circus” the second fastest seller ever, behind only Oasis’ “Be Here Now” (Big Brother), which took 11 days to hit a million sales in 1997. Take That’s previous 2006 set “Beautiful World” (Polydor) is the third fastest seller, taking 27 days to shift a million units.
“The Circus” has leapfrogged Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends” (Parlophone) to become the second biggest selling album of 2008 to date. It is behind Duffy’s debut “Rockferry” (A&M/Universal), which currently has 1.5 million total U.K. sales.
“They [Take That] will have to go some to catch and overtake ‘Rockferry’ and establish ‘The Circus’ as the biggest selling album of 2008 – but it is not impossible,” said OCC managing director Martin Talbot in a statement.
